Dumbwaiter in Melbourne coffee shops

We received an inquiry regarding dumbwaiters from Tuyen in Australia in November 2025. The client plans to install a small dumbwaiter in a newly renovated commercial coffee shop in Melbourne to transport food, beverages and trayware between floors within the store.

The client specified that the dumbwaiter only needs to fit standard catering trays, while also supporting the storage and transport of daily sundries, and match the layout of the coffee shop. After receiving the client’s requirements, we conducted detailed on-site communication with them to confirm key parameters including civil works conditions, floor height, unit style and door opening dimensions.

The coffee shop has two floors in total. The vertical distance from the ground floor to the second-floor finished floor is 3.4 meters, and the height from the second-floor finished floor to its ceiling is 3 meters.

A counter-style dumbwaiter is required for easy access to goods. This model features a platform flush with the floor level of each storey, so staff do not need to bend down to lift items. It allows effortless loading and unloading of plates and beverage trays, greatly reducing the workload of back-of-house staff.

Meanwhile, the client requested single-side opening for the equipment. The access openings on both the ground floor and the second floor shall be installed on the same wall, which facilitates the store’s traffic flow layout, eliminates the need to walk across passages, and fits the compact back-of-house space of the shop.

The internal dimensions are 600mm (width) × 600mm (depth) × 800mm (height).
The interior space perfectly fits standard catering industry trays, with no risk of trays getting stuck or failing to fit.

The reserved shaft size for equipment installation is 1000mm × 1050mm. The complete unit comes with an integrated steel outer frame, so customers do not need to cast a civil concrete shaft in advance.

Many newly built commercial premises in Australia tend to overlook dumbwaiter hoistway construction during the preliminary civil engineering planning stage. Separate wall reconstruction comes with high costs and long construction lead times. To solve this problem, we supply complete prefabricated steel frame shaft.

On-site installation only requires simple external cladding and finishing, which drastically shortens on-site construction periods and cuts down the client’s civil renovation expenses, enabling fast and hassle-free installation.

The equipment has a rated load capacity of 100 kg. Besides transporting regular food and drinks, it can easily carry cleaning tools, packaging materials, storage sundries and more, covering multiple daily operational needs of coffee shops with practicality far exceeding the client’s expectations.
During our communication, the client emphasized that Australian catering outlets see heavy customer flow and extremely frequent start-stop cycles for dumbwaiters. They were deeply concerned about motor overheating and breakdowns from continuous operation, and specifically asked whether the unit would need to stop and cool down after more than five consecutive runs. They worried that elevator downtime during peak hours would slow down food serving efficiency and compromise customer dining experience.
To address the client’s concerns, we provided a detailed explanation of the equipment’s core motor configuration: the unit is equipped with a dedicated permanent magnet synchronous gearless motor. It boasts remarkable advantages over conventional geared dumbwaiters, supporting high-frequency continuous operation around the clock without overheating-induced shutdowns during prolonged work. No mid-operation cooling breaks are required, making it perfectly suited for non-stop use during the coffee shop’s lunch and dinner rush hours.
Additionally, the equipment operates at a speed of 0.4 meters per second. For the 3.4-meter two-floor height, a single up-and-down trip takes only 8 seconds. The fast lifting speed drastically cuts down waiting time for staff.
The client put forward an additional customized requirement: they wanted warm yellow lighting fixtures installed inside the dumbwaiter car.

The client explained that the coffee shop’s overall decoration adopts warm wood tones and soft warm ambient lighting.

When transporting coffee, desserts and light meals on a daily basis, warm yellow lights can gently illuminate the food on trays and enhance the store’s visual atmosphere.

In addition, a dim car interior tends to cause problems such as unevenly placed plates and spilled drinks.

The warm lighting not only allows staff to clearly see how items are arranged inside the car at a glance, but also matches the overall decorative style of the venue.

This complete solution fully caters to the operational requirements of the Melbourne coffee shop. After receiving the full proposal, the client expressed high recognition of the equipment performance, customized interior fittings and local on-site support services.
